A calmer journey starts with a realistic transfer window.
Start with the journey
A transport connection is more than the time printed between two departures. Include leaving the first vehicle, finding the next platform or terminal and handling your luggage. Large stations and airports can take longer to navigate than a journey planner suggests.
Check whether the tickets are on one protected booking or separate reservations. Your options after a delay can differ substantially. Read the operator terms rather than assuming a later service will accept the same ticket.
The details that matter
For unfamiliar stations, look up a station map and accessibility information in advance. Check lift availability if needed and allow time for platform changes. Keep important confirmations available offline in case mobile coverage is poor.
An airport transfer should be compared from the terminal to your actual destination. A cheaper bus may stop far from your accommodation, while a train might require another connection. Include late service times and the final walk in the comparison.
Before you go
Keep food, water where allowed and essential personal items available during longer waits. Do not plan a critical appointment immediately after an uncertain arrival. A modest buffer can prevent one delayed leg from consuming the entire first day.
Before departure, confirm live operational information with the carrier. Timetables, engineering work and strike notices can change. A good plan includes the next reasonable option, not a promise that every part of the journey will run exactly on time.
