A simple packing edit for a lighter short break.

Start with the journey

Start with the actual itinerary and weather forecast. A weekend spent walking a city needs a different bag from a formal event or a beach stay. The goal is not the smallest bag at any cost, but a manageable one containing what you will use.

Lay out complete outfits that share a layer and a comfortable pair of shoes. Add only what the trip genuinely demands. Check whether laundry, toiletries or an iron will be available rather than assuming accommodation provides them.

The details that matter

Keep travel documents, medication and items needed on the journey accessible. If travelling by air, read the current airline baggage allowance and airport security guidance. A bag marketed as cabin-sized is not automatically accepted by every carrier or fare.

Choose one small pouch for chargers and adapters, then check electrical compatibility for the destination and devices. Reducing cables is sensible only when it does not leave essential equipment without power. Take a suitable plug adapter when needed.

Before you go

Pack liquids so that a leak does not spoil the rest of the bag. Use containers that you can close reliably, and follow the applicable security limits. Keep a little spare capacity for a layer removed during travel or something brought home.

After returning, note which items were unused and which would have helped. Your own repeated experience is a better packing guide than a universal list. A good weekend bag becomes simpler as you learn how you actually travel.
